Lois Marie Morris Strickland

Lois Marie Morris Strickland, 83, of Roanoke Rapids, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Magnolia Gardens after a 12 year battle with Alzheimers.

She was a native of Halifax County, and will join her parents, late Marion Curtis Morris and Kittie Belle Ballard Morris and her husband, Roland Lenwood Strickland, Sr.

Lois was a member of East 10th Street Church of Christ, where she enjoyed being a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club. Lois was a bookkeeper for a number of local businesses, including Western Union, M & M Red & White, Daily Herald, Grady L. Hux & Son, and Sherwin Williams. She was a 1946 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School. Lois took great pride in mothering her children and grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.

Mrs. Strickland is survived by her three daughters, Arnette S. Burd and Scott Walters, Sr, Kitty S. Archer and her husband, Randy, and Nancy S. Hux and her husband, Wes, all of Roanoke Rapids; two sons, Roland L. “Len” Strickland, Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Curt Strickland and his wife, Melissa, of Roanoke Rapids; six grandchildren, Dave and Owen Burd, Taylor and Madison Archer, Audrey and Aurora Myers; four great-grandchildren, Christina Ayersman, Christian, Logan, and Kelsey Burd; her extended family, Gold Dean, and Harold Carawan, Louella Arthur, Nancy Carawan, Carol Seta, and the late Harriett Johnson; special caregivers, Dianna Harris, Ellen Ramsey, Shirley Squire, Morgan Thomas, Evelyn Williams, and Cheri Parnell.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Friday, June 17, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of Randy and Kitty Archer, 105 Appleton Dr., Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 18, at 11:00 a.m. at East 10th Street Church of Christ with Minister Dave Chapman, Rev. Randy Martin, and Minister Bane Angles officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
